ADAPT is an innovative adaptive tourist guide application based on the location, time and user preferences. The project is co‐financed by the European Union and Greek national funds through the Operational Program Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, under the 2nd call of RESEARCH – CREATE – INNOVATE (project code: Τ2EDK- 02547).
The application can be used at all stages of the preparation, planning and implementation of a trip. The user can use the application to prepare and plan the trip and visit to the various points of interest in the best possible way, according to basic information such as opening hours and traffic routes. Furthermore, the user can use the application during the trip as a digital travel guide that will provide navigation information and travel information on the various points of interest as well as how to approach them. The goal of ADAPT is the content adaptability based on the tourist destination, taking into account two key features: the time and the user’s preferences.
Today, all mobile devices have a GPS receiver that provides the user’s current location and an electronic compass that provides user orientation. These technologies will be exploited by the application to quickly and dynamic adapt information and tourist plans. In addition, ADAPT will provide the feature to the user to add personal comments to the information. Moreover, the user can be shared further these comments with other users. In addition, the user will be able to evaluate the various points of interest as well as the travel information given by the application. These ratings will be utilized by the adaptability system to adapt the information to other users with similar preferences.
